IEA Releases Thematic Areas For 2012 Presidential Debate And Invites Questions From Public

The 2012 Presidential and Vice Presidential Debate Committee of the IEA is inviting questions from the public. A statement signed by the Director of the Institute, Mrs. Jean Mensah noted that the thematic areas which should form the basis of questions posed to the Presidential candidates include national vision and development agenda, the economy, governance, job creation, housing and foreign policy. It further explains that in order to ensure the credibility and transparency in the conduct of the debates, the Debate Committee has held series of meetings with the representatives of the four parties with seats in Parliament, namely NDC, NPP, PNC and CPP. It says, following one such meeting on 29th May this year, it was agreed that there should be two presidential debates and one vice presidential debate. The modalities for the choice of moderators were also agreed on. The statement maintains that the debates which were initiated in 2000, have helped to deepen and consolidate democracy and that this year's one will once again introduce an issue driven approach to the election process.
