Affordable Houses To Be Advertised Next Week - E.T. Mensah

The Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, E.T Mensah, has revealed that advertisement for the sale of the affordable houses to the general public will begin next week. Government withdrew its sovereign guarantee for STX Ghana, following its decision to exit from the STX housing project a project widely speculated to have been meant to cater for housing deficit in the country. Speaking in a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing, Hon. Mensah stated that the payment of deposits will secure interested homeowners their flats. Initially when they started the allocation, people were to pay deposits; some paid and others did not so those who paid we will just let them know what the new figures are and then we will allocate to them, he explained. He further noted that his ministry will still uphold the earlier allocations which were made to nurses, the military and the police service. He said projects in the various sectors of the Ministry including housing, rural housing, urban water, sea defense were all on course to facilitate the better Ghana Agenda. According to him, the Affordable housing project, auditing and signing had been completed whilst letters had been issued to contractors to confirm their completion of the projects and hopefully by the end of the month all contractors would move to site to commence work on the project. Hon. Mensah also said the Job 600 building complex, meant to serve as offices for the members of Parliament, will be commissioned by end of September this year. He stated that we needed some additional funding for the project and we got it so we are on course so when we come back from recess, you will move into your various offices.
