Sammy Awuku In Lavish Wedding...After Crying About Poverty

The hypocrisy of some Ghanaian politicians, especially those belonging to the Danquah-Busia breed, was on a display last Saturday, when Sammy Awuku took his bride, Mary Anane to the alter in a manner akin to all the pomp and ceremony of a royal wedding. Mr. Awuku, who has been bombarding Ghanaians with the sermon of how the Mills-Mahama regime has inflicted poverty, suffering and deprivation, on them, at the least opportunity, shockingly had as many as five best men and five maids of honour, and top of the range luxurious cars including a Range Rover, for his bridal trail. The lavish ceremony which took place at Liberty Assemblies of God Church in Lapaz, a suburb of Accra, was limited to invitation. The top of the range cars adorned the premises of the church. Ex-President Kufour was not left out of the party of the crme de la crme of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members who made their fortunes during Kufuors 8-year rule. Also in attendance were, ex-Vice President Aliu Mahama, Steve Ntim, who twice failed to be NPP National Chairman, S.K. Boafo, ex-Ashanti Regional Minister, ex-Trade Fair boss, Madam Esther Ofori, the beleaguered Assin-North Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Mrs. Agnes Okudzeto alias Daavi Ama among others. Young Sammy Awuku who is yet to engage himself in any non-political wage earning post is one of the deputy Communication officers of the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addos campaign team. Mr. Awuku, recently completed his law degree at Zenith University College in Accra. The reception that followed the wedding took another pomp and pageantry stage at the Physicians and Surgeons College at Ridge, a few metres away from ex-President J.J Rawlings home. Coincidentally, Nana Addo could not attend the Arabian-style wedding, because he was in the Western Region on his Restoring Hope Campaign. The irony of last Saturdays wedding stems from the thundering contrast of the poverty and want circumstance that young Awuku claims to have been inflicted on Ghanaians by the Mills Government, as against the lavish and obscene display of wealth by a section of the political class for a simple ritual of putting together a man and a woman for the continuation of divine procreation. Some observers of the event wondered at the sincerity of Mr. Awukus claims, for that matter NPPs claims, that Ghanaians are suffering, when there is so much affluence to flaunt. They think the claims are just propaganda stunts that will win the votes of Ghanaians for the NPP to be handed the mandate to steer the affairs of Ghana once again. These people are only interested in having access to the wealth of this country for their parochial comforts and the satisfaction of their obsession to the sub-culture of extravagance; theirs is not to render any humanitarian service to the so-called ordinary man said an observer. Mr. Awuku, recently gave an indication of his unemployed status, and was captured on tape, inciting some NPP activists to start eyeing government jobs to appropriate when Nana Addo wins the December elections, as he had already done so, only waiting to snatch files from the occupant of that position. Sammys wife, Anane, is said to be a former beauty queen and a Banker, who currently occupies a top position at Zenith Bank. The promising political communicator, Tuesday, May 1, 2012, in a private traditional marriage ceremony as the first phase to a flamboyant wedding ceremony later in the year. The engagement ceremony which took place at the ladys residence at Chantan, a suburb of Accra, attracted several dignitaries ranging from politicians, media personnel, statesmen, close friends and family members. Some of the notable names which graced the engagement ceremony include: Former Vice-President, Aliu Mahama, NPP Communications Director, Nana Akomea, NPP General Secretary, Sir John, NPP National Youth Organizer Anthony Kabo. Others were NPP MP aspirant, Ursula Owusu, former Ashanti Regional Minister, S.K. Boafo, Chairman General Kwami Sefa Kayi of Peace FM, DCOP Kofi Boakye, Omanhene Kwabena Asante of Hot FM, Abu Ramadan of the PNC, Deputy National Propaganda Secretary, Solomon Nkansah, among others.
