Ellembele Bridges Re-open After Akufo-Addos Visit

The controversy surrounding the closure of two bridges in the Ellembele District in the Western region ahead of the visit of NPPs flagbearer, has taken a new dimension. The NPP says its suspicion of foul play that the bridges were pulled down to thwart Nana Akufo-Addos tour, has now been confirmed as the two bridges were re-opened to vehicular traffic moments after their flagbearer left the area. The two bridges connect Esiama to Nkroful the birthplace Ghanas first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as well as from Esiama to Eikwe, the hometown of Mr. Freddy Blay, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament in erstwhile Kufour-led administration. The NPP blamed the DCE for the area Daniel Eshun of ordering the closure of the bridges to frustrate their flagbearer but Mr. Eshun countered, saying the Assembly had no hands in the decision to close the bridges since the construction works on the bridges were being undertaken by officials from the Ghana Highways Authority. Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage were reportedly compelled to park their vehicles and walk to cross the river before making it to the communities to take his restore hope tour to the people. However, personnel from the GHA finished works on the two bridges and re-opened them for use on Monday evening. The NPP Parliamentary candidate for Ellembele, Kwasi Bonzoh told Adom FM correspondent Listowell Kwadwo Fordjour, the opening of the bridge shortly after Nana Addos departure, confirmed their suspicion that the bridges were actually shut down because of the visit of their Presidential candidate since he enjoyed a lot of support in that constituency.
