NSS to recruit 8,600 graduates this year - Kuagbenu

The National Service Scheme (NSS) will this year (2012/2013), recruit 86,000 graduates from the various Universities, Polytechnics and Diploma institutions to be posted throughout the country. The figure is a 22.1 percent increase over that of last year�s figure of 67,000 and that with the current figure, more personnel will be pushed into the Agricultural sectors The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Mr Vincent Senam Kuagbenu, said this at the national launch of the National Service Week at the Jubilee Park in Cape Coast on Monday. The week-long celebration on the theme �fostering national unity for better socio-economic development; the role of service personnel� marks the end of the 2011-2012 national service year. The programme which started with a brass band led float from the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly through some principal streets in Cape Coast to the Jubilee Park included placard bearing personnel with inscriptions advocating peace and unity in the nation. Mr Kuagbenu congratulated the service personnel and urged them to use the experience they have had from serving the nation to face the challenges in the job market. The Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquainans Tawiah Quansah, praised the personnel for their services saying government appreciates the contribution of all service personnel in the nation. He said service personnel must not decline postings to remote areas and see them as opportunities to explore the nation and learn cultures saying you should used such opportunities to serve as ambassadors of peace. Mr Oscar Jonas Tei, the NASPA National President, said personnel found it difficult in finding suitable accommodation because landlords would not give out apartments for rent without taking not less than two years advance payment. He appealed to government to help provide accommodation facilities for service personnel and also appealed to landlords to readily make their apartments available for service personnel. The Central Regional NASPA President Mr Nasir Ahmed Bin Adams commended all service personnel and proposed that government provide entrepreneur sponsorship packages with Bank of Ghana and other Banks to provide financial support to graduates with good business proposals and help create more employment in the society.
