Essien Plays Part In Chelseas 1-0 Loss To Milan

Michael Essien was a second half substitute for Chelsea in their 1-0 loss to AC Milan in a pre-season friendly on Saturday. The Ghana midfielder came on in the 75th minute but the harm had already been done by Urby Emmanuelson in the 68th minute. The game played at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami pulled an impressive crowd another testament of how far the game has developed in the US. The football displayed by a more youthful look of both teams at times were exhilarating and full of pace. It was in all a balanced game with the Blues shading in a bit but were unable to capitalize on the numerous opportunities created with Edin Hazard in particular serving as their livewire upfront. Kevin-Prince Boateng on the other hand acquitted himself very well in an awkward leading marksman role handed him by coach Massimiliano Allegri. His ability to hold up play to bring in his teammates was a source of constant worry for the Chelsea defence but at times was erratic with his shooting. It was the best possible start the Rossoneri were hoping for in their US tour but mixed for Chelsea as their record in their US pre-season tour now stands at only one win, a draw and two losses in the four games played.
