Zabarma Community Endorses Bawumia, NPP

The Zabarma Community in Cape Coast numbering in their hundreds support and on Monday gave its full support and backing to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice-Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Partys Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo for the December general elections. The endorsement of the Zabarma Community came during a visit to the Zabarma Community near the Cape Coast Kotokuraba Market by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Speaking at a meeting between the leaders and members of the Zabarma Community and Dr. Bawumia, the leader of the community was pleased to welcome Nana Addos running mate and his team to the community before proceeding to state what he described as various lies told the people of the community by the NDC and its propaganda machinery. He said before the year 2000, we were made to strongly believe that the NPP was anti Muslim, and would depart many of the Muslims if voted into power. But we bear witness to the fact that the NPP governed this country for eight good years without deporting a single Muslim. He added that the good works of the Kufuor administration saw the lifting up of our trading activities, in fact our businesses prospered. But same cannot be said about the NDC administration, which has almost collapsed our businesses, he added. Alhaji Ismaila expressed the gratitude of the community to NPP for demonstrating its commitment to the course of the Muslim community, saying we are grateful to Nana Akufo-Addo for choosing Dr. Bawumia, a Muslim, as his running mate, just like former President J. A. Kufuor who chose Alhaji Aliu Mahama, meaning that the NPP has the Muslim community at heart. The community, which described itself as formerly staunch backers of the NDC as a result of the many lies they were told, pledge their determination to work, help, pray and support the NPP to wrestle power from the NDC come the general elections. Dr. Bawumia on his part welcomed the community and was happy that his selection as Vice-Presidential Candidate for the NPP had in part contributed to the decision of the important Zabarma community to join the ranks of the NPP. Dr. Bawumia was in the Zabarma Community as part of what he described as a Ramadan Tour to Cape Coast which saw him and his team visit a number of Mosques and Zongo communities in the municipality to fraternize and seek the prayers of his fellow Muslim siblings and elders who have for the past many days been engaged in the month long Ramadan fast. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was accompanied by a number of dignitaries including former Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Sheik T. D. Damba, NPP Vice-Chairman, Boniface Abubakar Siddique, former Minister under the Kufuor administration, Mohammed Amin Anta, a former Metropolitan Chief Executives at the Tamale Metropolis, Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson to NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and a couple of others.
