Be Careful Of NPPs Free SHS Promise - Ablakwa

A Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has warned Ghanaians to be wary of the NPPs promise of free secondary education if Nana Akufo-Addo becomes President. The NPP and its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo have on several platforms promised to make SHS free as a means to build the human resource of the country with the latest being his address to Ghanaians during the IEA Presidential Evening Encounter on Tuesday. Explaining his stance, Mr. Ablakwa said: when the NPP says free, what we have come to know them for is really not free. If you take basic school which they touted for eight years that they have made it free because they introduced capitation grant, that capitation grant was just GH 3 Cedis. It did not stop pupils in basic schools to go home to their parents and guardians with bills. He described the promise as not viable saying, if the NPP is proceeding to say that they will make SHS free, on the premise that Junior High School has been made free by the award of a GH 3 Cedis capitation grant, which we think will be increased to GH 4.50 pesewas, then it is not free because it is coming from the NPP.
