"Electoral Commission In Bed With NDC"

A former Deputy Attorney-General, Kwame Osei-Prempeh, has accused the Electoral Commission of not acting as an independent body. According to him, the EC is in alliance with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in creating the 45 new constituencies. The EC has re-laid a Constitutional Instrument in Parliament allowing the creation of 45 more constituencies following the creation of new districts by government. Although the EC has been dragged to court over the issue, the NDC has gone ahead to organise primaries in some of the new constituencies. Unfortunately, the EC goes about supervising these primaries. When the NDC had their primaries, they left some places where the primaries were not organized because according to them, the EC was going to create new constituencies, he said. They had their primaries somewhere in April and at that time the EC had not come out with the creation of new constituencies. So how did they get to know where the EC was going to create the new ones? he asked. Does it mean that the EC is in bed with the ruling NDC telling them ahead what they were going to do? Mr. Osei-Prempeh stated that the EC has questions to answer to Ghanaians because that is what their actions imply. I mean they were going to create constituencies and four months ago, the NPP did not know where they were going to create the constituencies, but the NDC knew. Who told them that; an insider in the EC? he questioned.
