Ghanaian Women Being Maltreated In Bahrain

Reports reaching Citi News indicate that some Ghanaian women are being exploited in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Bahrain has recently been identified by the World Bank as a high income economy and according to sources, these Ghanaian ladies were recruited by an employment agency in Bahrain called Kardin Manpower Employment agency and were promised better paid jobs. Speaking to Citi News, London-based Nana Kwame who is in touch with some of the women alleged they are being maltreated. They were told that there were jobs there for them. One of them is a caterer and the other is a business woman, he said. There is an employment agency called Kardin manpower that has a Ghanaian representative who works with the agency in Bahrain where the visa is prepared. Another agent in Ghana here gets the people and takes about $2,500 from them. They are then taken to Bahrain where the promise of good jobs is not kept. Nana Kwame also said the employment agency has also seized the passports of these individuals as over 15 of them are packed into a one room apartment. Some are in various homes serving as maidservants and many of them are willing to leave and those who cannot render the services anymore have had their passports seized by the agency which is demanding another $2,500 from them, he added.
