Asamoah Gyan Is The First Black Stars Player To Arrive For Malawi Clash

Al Ain striker Asamoah Gyan has arrived in Accra for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi. The 26-year-old touched down on Friday ahead of next week Saturdays game at the Accra Sports Stadium. He is among 19 foreign-based players penciled down for the qualifier and the international friendly against Liberia in Monrovia on September 11. Gyan will be leading the attack and that will be the first time he is kicking a ball in the Black Stars jersey after his self-imposed exile following a wasted penalty in the 2012 Afcons semi-final game against Zambia. Most of the foreign based players will be arriving on Monday after club commitments this weekend. The Baby Jet was in the news this week after media reports said he is in line to take over permanently as captain of the Black Stars. The GFA rubbished the reports saying John Mensah is still the captain with Michael Essien as his deputy. But Gyan could still wear the armband against Malawi since the policy of the GFA is to choose any senior player for that role in the absence of the two.
