Berekum Chelsea Out of 2012 CAF Champions League Campaign

Ghanas sole representative in the 2012 Caf Champions League Berekum Chelsea have crashed out of the tournament after TP Mazembe beat Al Ahly 2-0 on Sunday. The hopes of the Blues were hanging in the balance after a 1-1 draw game against Zamalek on Saturday, leaving their fate in the hands of the Red Devils. The Ghanaians needed group leaders Al Ahly to get a win against the Congolese to stand any chance of making it through to the semi-final. The debutants won only a game out of the five they have played at the group stage so far and have recorded a loss with the rest being draws. TP Mazembe are leading the log on 10 points, same as Al Ahly but with a superior goal difference while Berekum Chelsea follow with six with Zamalek sitting at the bottom with just a point. As things stand now, The Ravens have made it through to the penultimate stage along with The Red Convoy. Chelsea will be playing their last game in the group with Mazembe in Accra and will only hope to win for pride after Lex Corbeaux and Al Ahly booked the two semi-final slots in Group B. The Berekum boys will have to come back in a couple of years time as they failed to qualify for next year's edition. Leading goal scorer Emmanuel Clottey now has the game against Mazembe to equal or break the record of most goals scored in the tournament set by Stephen Worgu. The 24-year-old is currently a goal shot of Worgu's tally and with twice as many goals as closest rivals Mohammed Aboutarika and Tresor Mputu.
