"Ivorian Refugees Are Starving"

The chairman of the Ghana Refugee Board Ken Dzirasah says Ivorian refugees residing in the three refugee camps in the country are starving. Mr. Dzirasah, attributed the situation to what he described as drastic reduction in foreign support for the refugees. According to him, there is a consequent strain on food-rationing. Mr. Dzirasah added that although the reduction of food aid is attributed to the fact that calm has returned to Ivory Coast, there is still the need to cater for the thousands of refugees scattered across the country. In an interview with XYZ News, Mr. Dzirasah said the Board is resorting to local help to keep the refugees alive. Food rationing has been slashed because of funding problemsthere are real challenges basically the impression is that the Ivorian situation has returned to normalcy and there is no need to focus on our problem. We are just hoping that the funding situation would improve so that we can restore the level of food rationing that they used to enjoy Mr. Dzirasah said.
