Fatal Accident Claim Seven Lives At Nsawam

A fatal accident near Nsawam on the Accra-Kumasi highway last Friday afternoon claimed seven lives including a driver with many others seriously injured. The accident occurred when a Nissan Sprinter commercial bus being driven by the deceased ran into a stationary Mercedes cargo truck at Kofi Kwei Junction near Nsawam. The Nissan Sprinter bus with registration number, GS 8801-12 was travelling from Kumasi to Accra. Some of the accident victims were trapped in the vehicle. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua on Monday, the Eastern Regional Commanding Officer of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), Chief Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah, said the deceased driver of the Nissan Sprinter bus was yet to be identified. He said the dead including two children had been conveyed to the Nsawam Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy, pending identification by family members. Superintendent Sarfo-Peprah said those who sustained multiple injuries had also been taken to the same hospital for medical care. He said it was unfortunate that in spite of all the efforts the police was putting in place to reduce fatalities; drivers continue to disregard road safety rules.
