Most registered voters in Tema missed the opportunity to visit their polling stations to verify their data in the just ended exhibition of the provisional voters� register. The register had been on exhibition for the past 10 days but attracted low patronage, as most centres from the start of the exhibition have recorded a low turn-out. Some centres visited in the Tema West Constituency by the Ghana News Agency on Monday, the last day of the exhibition, showed that there was no significant improvement in turn-out over the previous days. At the Community Two, Number Four primary polling centre, 30 people had checked their particulars on the last day as at 1300 hours. Mr David Ekow Cudjoe, exhibition officer in-charge of the centre, said a total of 230 registered voters, out of the 504 in the register, checked their data during the nine days of the exhibition. Mr Cudjoe added that while 26 registered voters checked on the first day, the third day recorded the highest of 41 people. He attributed the low turn-out to lack of enough publicity, use of text messages to check the particulars, as well as general apathy on the part of some of the registered voters. He disclosed that his centre recorded one death report which was made by the son of the deceased, who presented a death certificate to authenticate his claim. Officials at the Mexico JHS exhibition centres A&B, told the GNA that out of 1,500 registered voters for the centres, about 40 per cent visited to verify their particulars. They indicated that the centre has had one objection case in which a lady, who registered as an 18 year old, was challenged to be a minor. The officials, however, added that the said lady was yet to visit the centre to prove her innocence or otherwise. Out of the 600 names in the register at the Community Two Police Station exhibition centre, about 30 per cent visited to check their particulars. At the Aggrey Road Primary Centre A, a total of 280 persons verified their particulars in a register with 671 potential voters. The centre B also recorded 69 out of the total of 256 names in the provisional register. About 40 per cent of the voters patronised the Aggrey Road JHS One and Two centres which had populations of 814 and 279 respectively.
