MTN celebrates 11th million subscriber mark

MTN Ghana Limited, the leading telecommunication network on Tuesday celebrated the attainment of its 11th million subscriber mark dubbed: �Raining 11 on MTN�. As part of the celebration, all subscribers would enjoy freebies to enable them make 11 minutes of free calls over the next two months, data users would get 50 per cent bonus on all data bundles purchased and 20 per cent discount on pay as you go and 11 lap top to be won in 8 weeks. Mr Michael Ikpoki, Chief Executive Officer, MTN, said the celebration was an opportunity to re-affirm the company�s market leadership. He expressed MTN�s excitement at achieving this significant milestone, 10 months after celebrating its 10 millionth subscriber milestone. Mr Ikpoki said the company would continue to excite its customers to improve on their living conditions. He said MTN Ghana had acquired 1.6 billion dollars to expand its network to provide adequate products and services for its customers. Mr Ikpoki said MTN had made significant investments in the deployment of state-of-the-art infrastructure aimed at delivering innovative world class telecommunications services to its subscribers. �We shall continue to maintain and extend our relentless tradition and culture of pursuing excellence as we celebrate this milestone by thinking ahead of our customers and in foreseeing their needs, and strategically setting our minds on unveiling a new era in the field of telecommunication in Ghana,� he said. Mr Ikpoki said as part of their corporate social responsibility the company had been supporting various activities in areas such as health, education and economic empowerment. He said MTN was commitment to youth development by providing platforms to unearth music and art talents among the younger generation. He assured subscribers that MTN would explore the most advanced technologies in their operations to ensure the provision of quality services to satisfy customer needs. Mr Kweku Sakyi-Addo, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication, said the celebration of 11th million subscribers was a recognition and achievement the chamber opt to acknowledge. He said telecommunication in Ghana offered the cheapest service among some other countries in Africa. He commended the MTN group for the attainment of the milestone. Major Emmanuel Owusu Adansi (retired), the Director in charge of Special Projects at the National Communication Authority, said telecommunication networks needed to improve on the provision of quality service to its customers. �Sound regulatory environment has made the attainment of the 11th million mark possible�, he noted.
