Well Rid Accra Of Gangsters

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has said it will rid Accra of all gangs before the general elections in December to prevent violent clashes. There were violent clashes between gangs in Nima and Maamobi at dawn on Monday resulting in a police vehicle being vandalized. The police said the clashes were an indication of a possible source of trouble during the general elections and it was working to end growth of gangs in the city. Speaking in an interview with Citi News, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbillah said the police was working to rid Accra of the gang culture. We want to vigorously pursue them to keep them at bay. We would not want them to disturb us on the way to elections. We are determined to nib the act in the bud. We are really determined to ensure that the period before, during and after election is cleared of any violent act, he said. He added that the incident was an early warning sign to us and we are going to address it well. We have caught a lot of men and we are going to ensure high police visibility and accessibility in order to make sure these things are prevented. DCOP Timbillah also requested information from the general public to enable the police to arrest members of the Nima-Maamobi gangs as well as gangs elsewhere. He said: We gathered intelligence to locate the rest of the gang who have gone underground. We will pursue them till we get all of them. I appeal to the general public to embrace the idea that security is a collective responsibility. Finding these guys depends on the general public and if they really treasure peace they shouldnt hesitate to provide the police with relevant information to assist us.
