NDP Reschedules Congress To October 6

The National Democratic Party (NDP) will go to congress on October 6 to elect a presidential candidate and National Executives. The Congress which was earlier scheduled for Saturday, September 29 has been postponed to enable potential aspirants to file their nominations. The former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has been tipped to lead the NDP for the December elections. The Interim National Chairman of the NDP, Dr. Josiah Aryeh, in an interview with Citi News explained that initially, we indicated that nominations will close on Wednesday and then we will go to Congress on Saturday the 29th of September but we have taken a second look and decided that Congress should be on the 6th of October. He added that the closure of nominations has also been extended. According to him, the rescheduling was mainly due to the the flagbearership and we will also be doing the constituency nominations and I understand that a couple of people have picked forms. Dr. Aryeh expressed uncertainty as to whether the former first lady will lead the party since she has not renounced her membership in the NDC membership yet. He added: The former first lady now remains a member of the NDC. She has not and I stand to be corrected; she has not publicly resigned her position but if she resigns, then of course like anybody else, she could join us.
