LATEST: Court Rescinds Decision To Order Arrest Of MTN CEO

The Fast Track High Court has rescinded its decision to issue a warrant for the arrest of MTN CEO, Mr. Michael Ikpoki and two others for failing to appear before it. This follows last minute intervention by lawyer for the three, Mr. Samuel Kodjoe who explained that the absence of Mr. Ikpoki, Customer Relations Executive, Jemima Kotei, and Chief Technical Officer, Jon Hoffman in court today was not as a result of disrepute for the court but due to a mix-up in the dates on which the case would be called. He told Myjoyonline.comthat they had mistakenly assumed that the case would be heard on Friday and not Thursday. Mr. Kodjoe said his clients had great respect for the rule of law and the judicial process. The court, however, awarded cost against the three. They are to pay Lawyer, Dr. Raymond Atuguba a GHC1,000, for failing to show up for the case and are to show cause why the telecom company should not be held in contempt for failing to restore all mobile communication services to Dr. Atuguba. Mr. Ikpoki and two others are expected to reappear in court on 2 October. The lawyer dragged MTN to Court seeking the restoration of his mobile services and compensation for a violation of his rights as well as loss of business. Dr. Atuguba filed the suit alleging MTN had also ignored many complaints about over-billing and an ultimatum to re-activate his line.
