Dr. Bawumia Sends NDC Panicking In The North...

NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia seems to be clearly sending shivers down the spine of the ruling National Democratic congress with respect to its electoral fortunes in the Northern Region as a result of the NPP Running Mates ongoing tour of the region. The ongoing sixteen day tour of the Northern Region of the number two to Nana Akufo-Addo has from all reports seen a major re-alignment of the politics of the Northern Region as Dr. Bawumia and the NPP have received a very enthusiastic response in all constituencies toured with huge crowds gathering at every single stop of the NPP Running Mate, numerous defections from the camp of the NDc and major backings from various traditional rulers in all the constituencies so far toured. In the Bunkpurugu Yunyoo constituency for example, the NPP received major endorsements from the Nyakpanduri skin as well as many other such skins who all endorsed Dr. Bawumia and indicated their acceptance of the NPPs message as well as the rejection of the NDC who they claimed had showed no commitment to their cause as they had neglected their area and forgotten totally about development of the area. It was same in Mion, where the Bugyelinaa, one of the powerful sub-skins in Dagbon fully endorsed Dr. Bawumia and the NPP and asked all his people to troop and vote for the NPP. Indeed, credible reports from the seat of government indicates that the President, John Mahama was forced to pay a quick unannounced visit to the region last weekend as a result of the many worrying reports received at the castle on the success of the NPP Running Mates tour and the deep inroads the tour had made into the region. On the assumption of John Mahama as President and obvious choice as Presidential candidate for the ruling NDC in the upcoming General elections, the widely held view by many political analysts pointed to a major galvanizing of support for the NDC in the northern region especially. However, the evidence on the ground so far as witnessed on the tour of the NPP Vice-Presidential candidate points very contrary to this earlier view. Political observers in the Northern Region are now pointing to a major battle for the North in the upcoming general elections but conclude that the New Patriotic Party is obviously poised to increase its share of votes and seats in the region despite the fact that the National Democratic Congress is presenting a Presidential candidate from the region. Significantly, observers point to a major challenge of the NDC and its presidential ticket in Dagomba, Kokomba and especially Mamprusi constituencies of the region with signs pointing to a clean sweep of seats in the four Mamprugu constituencies as well as a majority of the seats in the Kokomba and Dagomba constituencies as a result of the work so far done in the region by both Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. What remains to be seen is the response of the NDC to the current challenge and how the President would combine executive duties with the arduous duty of combing the nooks and crannies of the North as Dr. Bawumia has so far done. Dr. Bawumia has so far toured the Walewale, Nalerigu-Gambaga, Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo, Gushiegu, Chereponi, Saboba, Mion, Karaga and Zabzugu-Tatale Constituencies.
