Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo Appeals To Churches

Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has appealed to churches to desist from partisan politics but rather use the pulpit to speak against the use of abusive language in politics. He said the church should be more effective in the countrys politics by promoting principled political leadership and defending the truth and fighting tribalism which could generate hatred. In this regard, it is important for you to remain above partisan affiliation and instead uphold scriptural teachings on integrity, honesty, transparency and above all the love for one another, he said. You should also provide guidance that will enable the people to elect men and women of moral integrity to public offices, he advised. Mr Afotey-Agbo was speaking at the 80th anniversary celebration and thanksgiving service of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church in Accra. He said it was important to promote the State/Church partnership and added The State and the Church must collaborate and complement each others effort towards national development. He expressed the governments willingness to continue to deepen positive relations between the State and the Church and appealed to the church to speak against violence and any political behaviour that could trigger violence before, during and after the general elections. Reverend Canon Samuel Offei Ankrah, the Parish Priest, expressed the Churchs commitment to preach the message of peace and educate members to participate in the December general elections.
