The rate at which prices of goods and services increases in the country, measured by inflation, declined to 9.4 per cent in September from the 9.5 per cent recorded in August.
The September figure is 0.1 less than last month�s rate.
The decline is the first of its kind in six months after yearly inflation, comparing inflation in September 2012 to that of September 2011, had retreated from a consistent decline in February this year.
The Acting Government Statistician, Dr Philomena Nyarko, said at a news conference in Accra that monthly inflation, which compares inflation in September 2012 with the preceeding one, also declined to negative 1.5 per cent. Monthly inflation in August was negative 0.8 per cent.
Inflation in the food and non- alcoholic beverages group remained unchanged at 4.4 per cent in September, the acting Government Statistician said.
Local food products recorded an inflation rate of 3.4 per cent, almost three times lower than the 9.9 per cent rate recorded by imported food products.
The Central Region recorded the highest year-on-year inflation rate of 11.3 per cent, followed by Greater Accra Region and Ashanti Region with 10.9 and 9.9 per cent respectively.
The Upper East and West and the Volta regions recorded the least inflation rates at 6.6 and 7.3 respectively.
