Teye Nyaunu Officially Files As An Independent Candidate; NDC To Lose Seat

Outspoken Member of Parliament, Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu has officially filed as an independent candidate for the Lower Manya constituency with the Electoral Commission. The NDC firebrand who lost the party's primary to the deputy Eastern Regional Minister Ebenezer Oklitey Terlarbi, declared his intentions to contest the seat as an Independent candidate after he alleged that the primaries were unfair. Mr. Nyaunu who was present at the maiden delegates congress of the newly formed National Democratic Party has on several occasions stated that his decision to go Independent was borne out of the fact that some persons within the NDC worked against him during the primaries. Mr. Nyaunu could be expelled from the ruling NDC for his decision to go independent. But Mr. Nyaunu in a recent interview with XYZ News stated that he would not be bothered about the consequences that will be meted out to him by the party if finally decides to contest as an independent candidate. Pollster Ben Ephson Jr. says the NDC will lose the seat to the NPP's Dedo Diffie Kusi Agyarko if Teye Nyaunu goes ahead to contest. Ms. Agyarko is expected to benefit from the split between the two NDC stalwarts. She contested the seat in 2004 and lost by a little over 3,000 votes to Mr. Nyaunu. This will be her second attempt at seat.
