Labour & Fair Wages Hold Emergency Meeting On CLOGSAG Strike

The Ghana News Agency (GNA), during a visit to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Labour Commission on Friday morning showed that the two commissions were in an emergency meeting at the Labour Commission. A similar meeting was also ongoing among the executives of the Civil and Local Government Staff AssociationGhana (CLOGSAG) at an undisclosed location. In both meetings the details were not immediately known. However, workers were seen going about their normal duties in some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Accra. The GNA wanted to ascertain the impact of the industrial action on government business, and also to corroborate reports in some regions that government business virtually came to a standstill on Thursday, two days into the sit-down strike. A related visit on Wednesday by the GNA to some MDAs in Accra and Kumasi showed that the strike could not come off in all the MDAs because members had not received their circulars to that effect. CLOGSAG declared indefinite industrial strike last Wednesday to pressure government to pay premium to its members. CLOGSAG has said: The strike action is in response to failure on the part of government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to address outstanding issues with regard to the payment of premium to its members.
