Stop Preaching Ethnic Politics - TESCON

The Northern Regional chapter of the Tertiary Education Students Confederation (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) is appealing to President John Mahama to call his campaign team to order as their comments on ethnicity are dangerous. According to the TESCON President at University of Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala campus, Akati Mahama Rahim, the people of the North are more interested in consolidating peace than voting for one of its kind. He said: President John Mahama has indulged himself in ethnic politics. We were thinking he would leave that for his boys to do and then if they do that they can give excuses and then people might not worry so much. But he as a state man and as a President who is respected across the world, he shouldnt have engaged himself in those particular statement. Mr. Rahim continued saying, because if you come to the North and you tell people to vote for you because you are one of them; what does it mean? Are you telling us that Akans should vote for an Akan candidate and then Akyems should vote for an Akyem, Voltarians should vote for an Ewe candidate? That shouldnt be the case. "Ghana is a corporate nation, we vote for ideas and principles. If you have put good principles and ideas on the table we will buy them but if you have not prove that and you are coming to divide the nation through this ethnocentric statement by the fact that we should vote you because you are a Northerner; If think he has failed in that particular direction," he added.
