Kotoko Coach Dramani Defends Tactics Against Medeama

Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani has defended his ultra-defensive tactics deployed in the 1-0 win at Medeama. A Kofi Nti-Boakye strike on the stroke of halftime proved enough to hand the Premier League leaders their first defeat of the season on Sunday. The win also sees the champions retain their unbeaten start to the season. Many have however criticized the Kotoko for shutting up shop in a desperate attempt not to concede at the Tarkwa TNA Park. But coach Dramani says the ultra-defensive tactic was made necessary following the circumstances his team found itself in. Our aim was to win and while we were leading we needed to play safe in order to guard the one goal, he said in a post-match interview. If you dont have a goal the way you play is different and if you have a goal also the way you play is different. That is why I came up with several substitutions in order to create a shield for my center backs who were working really hard. But I needed to give them the requisite support as long as we dont foul our opponents and did not give away free kicks around our area. The win sees Kotoko climb to a more familiar fourth position three points off leaders Medeama in the Ghanaian top flight. The Porcupine Warriors next hosts arch rivals Hearts of Oak on November 18.
