Stop Selling Dog Chains - 2012 Best Cocoa Farmer

The 2012 National Best Cocoa Farmer, Mr. Agyenim Boateng has advised the youth in the country to go into large scale farming and desist from the sale of �dog chains on the streets� of the country. Telling his story to viewers of e.tv Ghana on Awake with Ama Pokua Mensah, about how he was eventually named the 2012 Best Cocoa farmer, Agyenim Boateng had a word for the youth concerning farming in the country. Though he admits it is difficult to acquire farming land in modern times, he states that; �I will advise the youth to go into farming. Instead of selling dog chains on the streets, go into farming.� �The other time, I went to a restaurant and saw a very young man; a very energetic man for that matter serving at the restaurant, then I told the man to get into farming if he will only get the land. �He took my advice in good faith and some two to three years later, he told me he was farming and the cocoa farm has started baring fruits,� he said. Talking about the award that was given him, he mentioned that he was glad eventually; his effort on the farmland has been recognized by the country. �I feel very great that at long last, someone has seen my efforts so I feel very great,� he said. �I felt great meeting the president and if it had not been for farming, I am not sure I would have met the president of the land.� Agyenim Boateng who hails from the Bonsu Nkwanta District revealed that he is also into other farming ventures and hopes to be named as the best farmer in the country sooner. �I am also into palm plantation. I have an 18 acre palm plantation and a 5 acre coconut plantation.� �I hope in the next three years, I will be named as the overall National Best Farmer in Ghana.� For being named as the National Best Cocoa Farmer, Agyenim Boateng reveals that he was �given a pick-up (truck), a spraying machine and the pick-up will help me to move about so will the spraying machine help me too.� Seventy-four farmers were honoured last Friday, November 2, across the country for their hard work towards the socio-economic development of the country. At the end of the 28 th Farmers� Day celebration at Abokobi, Lemuel Kwashi Martey of Manah Farms Limited in Accra was adjudged the 2012 National Best Farmer.
