Woyome Trial Adjourned

The trial of Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a businessman and National Democratic Congress (NDC) financier in connection with the alleged fraudulent judgment debt of GH51.28 billion has been adjourned. This was due to the inability of the state to get in touch with the witness and bring him to Accra Fast Track Court where the trial of the accused person was expected to continue. Ms Cynthia Lamptey, the principal state attorney in the case informed the court of their inability to bring their witness and consequently prayed the court to adjourn the case. Justice John Ajet-Nasam consequently had the case adjourned to November 28, 2012. The accused person and his counsel Osafo Boabeng were in court. Kwaku Agyemang Manu, former Deputy Minister for Finance concluded his evidence at the last hearing date. He said the Government of Ghana was only interested in the building and rehabilitation of stadia for hosting the Confederation of African Football (CAN) 2008, which was why adverts were placed in newspapers inviting persons to bid. Mr. Manu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa West said he did not know of any other project the accused person had with the government. This was after Mr. Boabeng suggested stadia rehabilitation and construction were part of the project his client wanted to undertake. The witness refuted suggestions by Mr. Boabeng that the introductory letter the ministry gave to Woyome, who was seeking a loan from banks in Austria and United States did not contain anything on CAN 2008.
