Stop Charging Unapproved Boarding Fees - Minister Fumes

The Ministry of Education has noted with concern that some schools are still collecting unapproved rates despite its directive to heads of second cycle institutions stating the approved rate. A statement signed by the Director of Public Relations Mr Paul K. Krampa, said though the institutions had been instructed to collect one cedi eighty pesewas (GHC I.80) daily for the 2011/2012 academic year boarding fee, some heads are still collecting the unapproved rate of two cedis fifty pesewas. The statement said it has also been observed that some heads have even sent their students home to collect the difference to meet the unapproved rate. The statement said the Ministry has taken serious view of this development and would like to state that Heads who flout this directive would be sanctioned. It called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education to ensure that heads of institutions within their jurisdiction adhere strictly to the directive.
