Coalition Of Teachers On Indefinite Strike

The Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana has embarked on an indefinite strike to demand improved service conditions. The action began on Monday with the teachers calling for restoration of slashed salaries and the resumption of market premium including the release of Capitation Grant. The nationwide strike, according to the Communications Director of the Coalition Ali Awudu, will see over 50,000 members out of the classroom. Ali Alidu told XYZ News until government meets their demands they will not return to the classroom. There are teachers that [have] been promoted from one category to another, from senior superintendent to principal superintendent and theyve not been put on the correct salary scale for several years, he lamented. He said what is heart-wrenching is that some new teachers have not being paid for the past two years and have been living on allowances.
