Asamoah Gyan Pats Teammates For Cape Verde Victory

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has congratulated his teammates for the 1-0 pre-Nations Cup warm-up match victory against Cape Verde on Wednesday. The Al Ain striker missed the friendly international played in Lisbon due to the passing of his mother last week. He was in Accra to mark the one-week celebration of his beloved Cecilia Love Amoako. Spain-based Mubarak Wakasko's second half goal gave the second-string Black Stars squad a 1-0 win win. "I must commend the technical team and the playing body for raising the flag of Ghana high. I am indeed proud of you, well done and let's keep up the spirit," Gyan said in a statement. "I wish to thank all who supported the Gyan family during our trying moments, I on behalf of my family say we are indeed grateful for your support." Gyan should be mentally fit to lead the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations finals which will be played from 19 January to 10 February. Ghana play DR Congo on 20 January before engaging Mali and Niger.
