Akuapem Baamuhene Attacked; NPP Chairman Fingered

Peacefmonline.com can authoritatively confirm that Nana Kwame Asare Bampo II, Baamuhene of Akuapem, has been attacked in his palace in the late hours of Monday. Speaking to his wife Auntie Rosemary in an interview on Peace FM's Midday news bulletin, she said her husband who has been on the throne for 10 years, sustained various degrees of injuries but has been treated and discharged. Narrating what happened to Peace FM, she said three armed "macho men" came into the palace when her husband (Nana Kwame Asare Bampo II) was asleep with their two children. According to her, there was a power outage on that particular night so her husband had opened the main entrance to their house for fresh air since the room was too warm. That, she said, enabled the assailants to have easy access to the Palace. She pointed accusing fingers at the chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akuapem, Kofi Acheampong and also the siblings of Nana Kwame Asare Bampo II, who she claimed have been at loggerheads with her husband since his enstoolment as the Akuapem Baamuhene. "According to my husband, at 11:30pm, he was asleep with our two children but because of the unbearable heat, had opened the door for a bit of fresh air. All of a sudden he felt a strong arm grabbed him from behind and turned to see two able-bodied men in the room who attempted to slash his throat with a knife...After several struggles, the men run away thinking Nana was dead. Nana realizing that they had gone managed to knock on the door of a neighbor who helped in taking him to the hospital. "The problem was caused by the NPP chairman in this area. He brought a lot of macho men to my husband's late fathers funeral and one of them entered our house with the brother of the NPP chairman, Kwame Ayerebeng to create problems and we reported it to the police", she recounted. Meanwhile, the police have arrested Kwame Ayerebeng and his brother Kofi Acheampong. Investigation is still ongoing.
