The Minister of Education, Lee Ocran has described as "interesting", assertions by some head teachers in the nation's Senior High Schools who claim the fees charged as feeding fee, are insufficient. According to the Minister, the head teachers should be able to work with the current figures and suggested that others could make it worse; in reference to the NPP's free SHS policy. The headteachers say the amount being charged had the likelihood of negatively affecting the quality of food provided to the students in the schools. Speaking on an Accra based radio station, Joy Fm Mr. Ocran however questioned the teachers on their demand saying, �People are paying and yet they are complaining about the quality of the meals, even after the subsidy by the government? What happens if you don�t pay at all." The Minister has accused CHASS of charging many unapproved fees including, headmaster retirement fees, Hepatitis B fees and others. According to the Minister, the issue is not only with the feeding because �some of the schools are charging very ridicules fee... Some of the schools are charging unapproved fees. They pile up these fees then parents blame government that government is charging fees. These fees don�t come to government at all. Government does not make profit out of the schools.� The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) want to charge GHC 3 as feeding fees instead of the existing GHC 1.80.
