MELCOM Gives 25,000 To Disaster Fund

The management of Melcom Group has presented an amount of 25,000 cedis to the Melcom Disaster Fund established by the Accra Metropolitan Authority to cater for victims of the November 7 Achimota store disaster. Melcom Chief Operating Officer Arvinder Singh who handed over the cheque to the Mayor of Accra, Okoe Vanderpuije, said the directors of the company had instantly decided to contribute the amount towards the fund. Mayor Vanderpuije thanked Melcom for their contribution and assured that the money collected would be used for the right purpose. He said they were hoping to collect upward of 100,000 cedis and as soon as they reached this figure, disbursements will commence. MR Vanderpuije said he was satisfied with the way the disaster had been managed by all the concerned agencies and praised Melcom staff for their perseverance throughout this difficult period. He called for prayers for the departed souls and for the speedy recovery of the injured. AMA, he noted, is taking steps to ensure that such a tragedy does not occur again.
