Promote Graduate Employment

Prof. S. K Nokoe, Vice Chancellor of the Wisconsin International University College (WIUC), has called on the government to focus on improving graduate output and labour market policies to promote graduate employment. Speaking at the recent 5th graduation ceremony of WIUC in Accra, he said 70,000 graduates join the workforce annually out of which 5,000 get employment in the formal sector. The remaining 65,000 find employment in the informal sector or remain unemployed, he said. Prof. Nokoe also called on the students to play proactive role by understanding and anticipating the changing professional requirements of their chosen profession and acquire skills and competencies for future roles. Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn, Chancellor of the Wisconsin International University College, (WIUC) Ghana, in a speech, attributed the slow development of the African continent to the unfortunate attitude of impugning the image of other industrious Africans. Using the African map as an example, he said there are questions about our attitudes that need to be answered. Rt. Rev. Dr. Fynn therefore advised the graduands to love and encourage one another and extend a helping hand always. 164 students graduated with Masters Degrees while 623 students obtained bachelors degrees. 67 students representing 10.8 percent obtained first class. James Kojo Ahenakwa of the Finance Department of Western Publications also graduated with Masters Degree in Business Administration, Finance Option. Prof Ernest Aryeetey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, in a speech read on his behalf, encouraged the graduates to lead lives that will not question their competence and work hard in order to contribute their quota to the growth of the country.
