CODEO Speak Against Politics Of Insult

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) have warned political parties that the increase in personality attacks across the media with a week to the election. This was contained in the groups last monthly pre-election observation report. The group said the trend where politicians attack their opponents on unsubstantiated allegations in the media is worrying. CODEO in a press release asked the Media to be more circumspect, responsible, and objective in its reportage. In an interview with Citi news a member of the CODEO advisory board, Sheik Aremeyaw said every flagbearer has a certain large critical constituency, so that if you attempt to denigrate or insult about that particular person, you engender a certain responds from those constituencies which then further pollute the environment and create a situation that can lead to conflicts. That is why we should all avoid all behavior and action that seeks to restrain the other person from the freedom to be able to express his political position. CODEO is also asking political parties and candidates to caution their members and supporters to refrain from defacing posters of their political opponents and to respect the code of conduct signed by the parties themselves.
