Sulley Muntari To Gatecrash Ghana's AFCON Squad

Sulley Muntari could force his way into Ghana's squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after returning to training with AC Milan last night. The enforcer's return to full training with the Italian giants came just 48 hours before Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah names his squad for the tournament. His participation in the full training session with AC Milan indicates that he has fully recovered from a muscular injury he suffered in training three weeks ago. Muntari trained with the entire team during the session which makes him available for Milan boss Maxmilliano Allegri for Thursday clash against Reggina. The influential midfielder's availability means that he will be fully fit well in time for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with five weeks before the tournament in South Africa. His inclusion or exclusion from the Black Stars could spark a fierce debate as critics would say he has not played enough matches to warrant a place in the squad. If he is excluded and excels for AC Milan during their league matches, coach Appiah could come in for the flak for excluding one of the experienced players in the team given his form before his injury problems started. The Ghana international recovered from a serious knee injury sustained over the summer but returned last month in a quicker-than-expected return. However he suffered a muscular injury few days later in training with AC Milan which left his chances of making Ghana's team for the AFCON in the balance. But with his return to full time training and the likelihood of him playing on Thursday Muntari has given himself a good fighting chance. Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is expected to name his full squad by Thursday as they prepare for the tournament in South Africa. The Black Stars coach has been keeping his cards close to his chest, sparking speculation from several newspapers about which players would make the squad.
