Prez Mahama Swears In Transition Team

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the 22-member transition team to manage the transition to a new administration in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act. The 22-member transition team is expected to begin work on Friday, December 14 and the Speaker of Parliament, Joyce Bamford-Addo has also been designated as chair of the Advisory council. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, the President stated that the team was made up of representatives from the various aspects of the Ghanaian society and expressed the hope that they will oversee the smooth transition of government. �I have asked the Vice President to chair the transition team which is composed of very eminent and trusted Ghanaian including representatives from labour, civil society, the business community, traditional rulers and several others.� He added that �the functions of the transition team are clearly provided for in the Act. They are among others, to make comprehensive and practical arrangements to regulate the transfer of political power following elections including the organization of the inaugural ceremony on the 7th of January, 2013.� The Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur accepted the appointment on behalf of the team and assured President Mahama of the team's commitment to executing its work effectively. �This is part of the process of deepening Ghana�s democracy. We have had a week; the last week of admirable progress in the practice of democracy that everybody around the world is congratulating Ghana for.� According to him, his team will have a �preliminary meeting of our administrative nature to determine the members who will serve on the three specific areas or committees that the law requires us to. So it�s on this note that I announce to the press that we will be meeting at the flagstaff house at 2pm on Friday.� Meanwhile, in an interview with Radio Gold, the Vice President has called on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to accept the results of last Friday�s elections. The NPP is expected to start legal proceedings at the Supreme Court on Thursday to challenge the 2012 election results insisting it was rigged in favour of President Mahama. The Vice President has however appealed with the NPP to accept the decision adopted by the entire country.
