The Ghana Journalists Association has condemned unprovoked attacks on Journalists who have been covering protest marches and demonstrations of aggrieved NPP supporters over the outcome of Friday�s polls. The association has appealed to the Police service to protect Journalists to enable them go about their duties in freedom. Reporters from Multimedia, Metro TV, TV3 and other media organizations were attacked by alleged NPP supporters as they covered the post-election agitations. Although the GJA condemns such attacks, it is cautioning Journalists to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to attract the anger of any group of persons. Afail Monney, Vice President of the GJA in an interview with XYZ News stated that any attack on any journalist is an attack against all journalists in the country, press freedom and the democracy of the country. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Civic Education has also condemned the reported attacks on journalists and NDC sympathizers by aggrieved supporters of the main opposition NPP. One NDC sympathizer is currently receiving treatment after sustaining stab injuries at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle on Tuesday. Police are yet to confirm claims by some government spokespersons that a taxi driver found dead around Labone here in Accra was also an NDC sympathizer. Communications Director of the NCCE, Harrison Beiley told XYZ News that the NPP must rein in its aggrieved supporters as it heads to court to challenge the results.
