"We Never Sabotaged Oman FM"

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has debunked claims that they intentionally jammed the transmission of Kencity Media Group (Oman FM, Net 2, Ashh FM and Spice FM) just to sabotage them. Kencity Media Group owned by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin North earlier petitioned the NCA in a letter dated 26th November 2012 to register its displeasure on the jamming of Oman FM, Net 2 and Ashh FM. Listeners of Oman and Ash FM as well as viewers of Net 2 were denied their favourite programmes during the electioneering campaign, a situation which has extended even beyond the elections. Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, Kwabena Kwakye, Director of Radio at Oman FM said per their investigations, they realized that a government firm in Accra and Kumasi is responsible for the jamming of the airwaves. He does not understand why their transmission was jammed; however, they suspect that somebody just didnt want them to air during the December elections. Mawuko Zomelo, head of Cooperate Affairs at the NCA told Kwami Sefa-Kayi on the same platform that his outfit does not sabotage institutions it has licensed. We are in charge of licensing the radio station to be able to operate. We cannot give you a license and then sabotage you. We can take it (license) back only on the grounds that the radio station is not being used as purposed. We dont even have a transmitter that can be used to jam a radio station..." he asserted. According to him, "We only have monitoring equipment for monitoring the frequency. It beats my imagination why NCA will give a license and sabotage the radio station and so we need to investigate and find who is responsible. We are in negotiations with them and hopefully we will get to the bottom of it he said.
