Muntari Makes Milan Return On Day He Was Axed From AFCON Squad

AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari made a triumphant return to first team action ironically on the day he was axed from the Ghana squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. The 27-year-old came on as a 76th minute substitute for Rodney Strasser in Milans 3-0 win over Reggina in the Coppa Italia. Muntaris emergence on the touchline and entry to the field of play was hailed by the Rossoneri fans with a standing ovation. The former Inter Milan star had finally won his battle over a turbulent past four months where he has been out with a serious knee injury. Muntaris return is even more shocking considering he was not expected to play until the middle of January. It was on this account that he was excluded from the provisional 26-man squad of the Black Stars for the Nations Cup to be hosted by South Africa. He however proved to Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah and his entire technical team that his exclusion from the squad might had probably come way too early as he went on to give a good account of himself on his return. Muntari has now put himself right in contention for his first Serie-A outing of the season this Sunday when Milan host Pescara.
