Afari Gyan Is Incorruptible; Adenta MP Tells NPP

The NDC MP for Adentan constituency has praised the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan for not succumbing to the whims and caprices of the opposition NPP. Kojo-Adu Asare said he admires the EC boss for his resolve to carry out his legitimate duties despite what he described as the avalanche of criticisms from aggrieved members of the NPP. The Adenta MP was reacting to claims by the NPP that the ruling party rigged last Fridays general elections in connivance with some officials at the EC. The opposition party says it is working feverishly to present its evidence in court but maintains that the election results were inflated to favour the incumbent, President John Mahama- an accusation the EC has vehemently denied. Speaking on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Kojo Adu-Asare dispelled NPPs claim of rigging, adding that the party [NPP] is refusing to face reality. According to him, the NDC won the election on merit because majority of Ghanaians have endorsed the party and its presidential candidate. The NDC MP added that the ruling party won the December polls based on its unprecedented track record in its first term and thus the NPP decision to seek court redress will be an exercise in futility. The Adenta MP stated that rather than condemning Afari Gyan; the NPP should commend him for remaining incorruptible; upholding the principle of good governance and transparency in Ghanas electoral process. He likened the work of the EC boss to that of a referee in a football match, who always fall victim to abuses and attacks, especially when a decision taken does not go in the favour of a particular team. Adu-Asare was baffled at the way the NPP pride themselves as democrats and yet oppose the decision by the EC simply because it did not favour them. The outgoing MP could not fathom why the NPP and its presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo have refused to concede defeat, claiming God has already won the battle for them. He intimated that the NPPs challenge of the legitimacy of President Mahama means they are questioning Gods judgement. Adu-Asare urged the NPP to call its recalcitrant members to order and prepare for a good fight in 2016.
