Fire Outbreak At Tema Industrial Area

Officials from the Ghana National Fire Service are still fighting the fire that gutted a chemical warehouse at the Tema light industrial area during the late hours of Saturday. It is unclear what caused the fire that started at about 6:45pm. Speaking to Citi News, Public Relations officer of the Ghana National Fires service; Billy Anaglatey says the fire, which is a hydrocarbon fire has however been brought under control. As at this moment, we are still fighting the fire and it has been brought under control. This fire is a hydrocarbon fire; which means it is a liquid fire or a petroleum based fire, he stated. Mr. Anaglatey further disclosed, The spillage enabled some of these liquids spill into the basement of the premises and because of that condition, we cannot access the basement so what we are doing is to induce our foam concentrate into the basement so that it covers up the premise of wind so that the fire will go off. We are doing this now because the fire has not completely gone off. We are still battling with some pockets of fires which have gone off but keep reigniting. We are going to ensure that we douse the whole premises with water and reduce the temperature below the blue sheet of any combustible material within the premises, he added.
