Nsawam Police Nab Fake Soldier

A 23 year old unemployed man has been arrested by the Nsawam Police for allegedly posing as an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces. Moses Asiedu, a resident of Adamu, a suburb of Nsawam in the Eastern Region, who had a fake identity card of the GAF is said to have collected monies from people to assist them get recruited into the army. The Nsawam District Police Commander, Superintendent Kwesi Boadu Kankam, told the Ghanaian Times here, that a soldier Private Asiedu Amos Adjetey, saw Asiedu dressed in military uniform and being suspicious, confronted him, to which Asiedu could not give an explanation. Private Adjetey, therefore, arrested Asiedu and took him to the Nsawam Police, where during a search on him, the fake identity card was found. According to Supt. Kankam, the suspect confessed during the interrogation that he was not an officer of the GAF, and stated that the card was prepared for him by a friend, Awudu Mustapha. The police have mounted a search for the arrest of Mustapha, while Asideu has since been remanded in police custody by the Nsawam Magistrates Court until January 28.
