Legon Fatal Crash: Truck Driver To Be Hurled Before Court

The driver of the waste disposal truck that killed two female students of the University of Ghana last Friday would be arraigned before court on Monday. The driver has been in the Legon police custody since his truck crashed into a taxi that was conveying the two ladies to the University campus at dawn on Friday. In an interview with Citi News the Legon Police Commander Chief Superintendent Frank Kojo Annin stated �the mere fact that we are putting him before court doesn�t make him the culpable driver�. He indicated that when there are two vehicles involved in an accident and the vehicles are all in motion unless it is obvious both drivers are would be termed as culpable. He stated that until the investigations are over, they would not be able to deduce who the complainant is. According to him, both drivers would be heard and then the docket would be presented to the Attorney General�s Department. He further stated that the Attorney General would determine which of the drivers is culpable and who is not. �For someone to be granted bail unless the court� he added. Meanwhile the University of Ghana has launched investigations into the circumstances which led to the deaths of the two female students. Speaking to Citi News The University�s SRC President Edmond Kombat said �we have been trying to contact the family and the SRC is planning from Monday that they will go and visit the family and mourn with them�. He indicated that the ladies had finished their papers on Tuesday but were still staying on campus. �Sometimes after students finish their papers due to tiredness they stay around until the weekend before they go home� he stated. He further stated that the ladies were on their way back to campus after they had gone to buy food in town. �Investigation is ongoing on the issue; the Senior Speaker of the third hall has been commissioned to do that� he added.
