Kofi Adams: I�m A Victim of "Text Driving"

Former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress has said that he was a victim of text driving and receiving calls till after watching a documentary on bad driving habits. �I�ve learnt my lessons following a review of a documentary I watched", he stated. Speaking as a panelist on Peace FM�s �kokrokoo� programme Tuesday morning, the aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem in the Volta Region stated that it is a very bad habit to do certain petty things while driving not only on a highway but everywhere. Kofi Adams was advising the general public after three accidents on Monday claimed the lives of twenty six (26). He cautioned against the use of old tyres and advised drivers to check the life span of their tyres to also help avoid accidents. A Deputy communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, also admitted to falling victim of receiving calls and text messaging while driving. He added that what transformed him was when he was arrested by the police some time ago for the same offence. He was contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM�s �kokrokoo� programme. The accidents occurred on Tamale-Buipe highway in the Northern Region, Lapaz in Accra and Okyereko, near the Winneba Junction in the Central Region. The accident which occurred on the Tamale-Buipe highway early Monday claimed 24 lives, while one person died in the accident at Okyereko. In the case of the accident in Accra, an eight-year girl was knocked down and killed by a saloon car on the George Bush Highway at Lapaz. The incident sparked off a protest by the youth in area who demanded the construction of a food-bridge to avert further casualties.
