Tight Security At Supreme Court

Information available to peacefmonline.com indicates that security at the premises of the Supreme Court is indeed very tight. The Supreme Court will today give its ruling on a joinder application filed by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NDC seeks the court to, among other things, allow it to be joined as a respondent in the election petition brought by three members of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), including its 2012 presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo, challenging the results of the December polls, as declared by the Electoral Commission (EC). According to Peace FM's, Bernard Quanson who reports from the Supreme Court, police personnel are standing at vantage places like the Kwame Nkrumah Museum, National Lottery Authority (NLA) and other sections that lead to the premises of the Supreme Court with stern faces and posture looking out for trouble causers. This he said is to ensure that no party supporter gets close to the premises of the Supreme Court. In an earlier interview on Peace FM, the Police promised tight security at Tuesdays hearing, adding they will ensure that no party supporter get close to the Supreme Court. DSP Freeman Tetteh, Accra Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service in an interview with Mr. Tweneboa Kodua (TK) on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo explained that based on previous experience, there is the need for them to widen their spectrum to ensure that no one comes to the premises holding any unwanted object. Our arrangements are such that nobody is even supposed to stand outside the Supreme Court. We are widening our coverage area because formerly we restricted it to the premises of the Supreme Court... he said. It would be recalled that cane-wielding angry supporters of the governing NDC last Wednesday besieged the premises of the Supreme Court in Accra apparently to whip members of the opposition NPP.
