Lapaz Residents Angry

Residents of Abeka Lapaz stretch of the George Walker Bush road on Monday, mounted road blocks to expressed their anger at the recurrent of death on the highway. The George Walker Bush highway which was started in 2006 was commissioned for use in February 2012 by late President John Evans Atta Mills and is approximately 14 kilometers. Since its completion, many people have fallen victims to road accidents; some getting severely injured and a higher number of them losing their lives. A recent occurrence involves an eight year-old-girl who was knocked down by a BMW saloon car in her attempt to cross the road. According to Peace FMs Yaw Obeng Manu, the residents say they are tired of complaining. Both residents and users of the highway have complained about the positioning of the footbridges but authorities have paid deaf ears to them. The footbridges provided are far from where pedestrians will normally cross roads and so people are forced to cross the road without using the footbridges. The road and the bridges dont even favour the disabled, one resident said. Angry drivers and residents says they are even tired of complaining about the nature of the road because anytime there is an accident they talk and authorities responsible pay deaf ears to it. The footbridges should have been constructed at where the lorry stations are or where people normally cross the road. Where they have constructed the other footbridges is just a waste of resources, a driver said.
