Man Gunned Down At Drinking Spot

A 25-year-old young man and a resident of Ashaiman Newtown was on the dawn of 2013 shot dead by an intimate friend and next door neighbour at a popular drinking spot at Ashaiman Newtown. Bright, the deceased, in the company of other area guys and Atsu, the suspect, visited Patience Bar on the night of December 31. Narrating the incident to The Finder, Dauda, an eyewitness and one the area guys who were partying on the fateful day, said at about 11pm of December 31, some ladies joined them at their table, and Bright addressed one of their guests as his girlfriend. Not too long after Brights reference to the lady, Atsu excused the lady to a corner in the pub where the group heard a heated argument between Atsu and the lady. Dauda said, Our tables were positioned outside the pub so when we heard the quarrel between our friend and the lady, we all rushed in to the inn to separate the two and ensured that sanity prevailed. In fact, we all did not know that Atsu invited the girls to our tables because that was the first night some of us had met them. And according to Atsu, he did not understand why Bright would refer to a lady he had invited to booze with us as his girlfriend, hence he suspected that Bright had been seeing his girlfriend. Bright, Dauda said, apologised to Atsu for his misconduct and explained to him that did not know Atsu had a date with the lady. Retiring to their tables outside the pub to continue with their partying, Dauda said that Atsu decided to stay inside the inn with the girlfriend in contention and about an hour into the New Year, we heard two gunshots from behind us and Bright screaming for help. We crowded around our friend only to see that he had been hit by the bullets and was bleeding profusely. The gunshots, he said, created a pandemonium in the spot and while everybody rushed for cover, we heard Atsus girlfriend screaming loudly that Atsu had killed his friend. We rushed to them only to see the girl firmly grip the collar of Atsus throat and screaming that Atsu fired the gunshot. When The Finder rushed to the pub after hearing the gunshots, it gathered that an unregistered 4x4 Toyota vehicle arrived at the bar to convey the deceased to the Tema General Hospital (TGH). Atsu has since been on the run after the area guys decided to have him pay for his crime. A family relation of the deceased told The Finder that they would not comment on the incident but hinted that irrespective of the family ties between the two, they would take a spiritual revenge after the corpse of Bright had been released to them for burial.
