Linguist Offers Nephew For Sale

A 47-year-old linguist who offered his nephew, Massawudu Gariba, 14, for sale at Kasoa in the Central Region, is in the grips of the police. The suspect, Kwabena Mould, took his nephew from his mother for an outing, but rather offered him for sale for GH30,000. The Accra Regional Police Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adu Fati told the "Ghanaian Times" in Accra yesterday, that in the morning of January 25, the Regional Police Command had information that Mould, a linguist of Nii Amarkwafio, Chief of Adieso Amarkrom, was offering a boy for sale. A policeman was detailed to contact Mould and feign interest in the transaction. Posing as an Alhaji and wanting to buy the boy, the policeman had a series of communications with Mould on phone on the deal during which the suspect told him that he was in dire need of money. After a lengthy bargaining, they settled on GH20,000. At about 1pm., the same day, Mould directed the policeman to meet him at a restaurant at Galilea, off the Mallam-Kasoa road. When the policeman arrived, Mould, rushed to him in the car, dragging along the boy who was eating bread with Ice Kenkey. Chief Sup. Adu Fati said when the money was handed over to Mould, he suddenly realized that he was dealing with a policeman and attempted to flee, but was arrested. In his caution statement, Mould admitted the offence and pleaded for forgiveness, claiming his action was the work of the devil.
